Good news for poultry farmers out there. Solar PV funding is now available!
Next month, laying hen and pullet farmers in England who have flocks of 1,000 birds or more will have the opportunity to apply for the Laying Hen Housing for Health and Welfare grant. This program will assist farmers carry out infrastructure projects to significantly enhance the health and welfare of birds and promote environmental sustainability.
Funding for roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) systems will be available as part of these larger projects.
The grant offers funding ranging from £15,000 to £500,000 and is specifically allocated for refurbishing or replacing existing laying hen and pullet housing. Farmers will have the freedom to select projects that best cater to the unique needs of their flocks. The upgraded housing may include advanced features such as bio-secure, multi-tier housing with non-flicker LED lighting, mechanical ventilation systems, and the option for roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
It’s worth noting that the grant is open to farmers with any current housing system, with a particular focus on supporting those transitioning from colony cages to high-welfare loose-housing. This initiative presents a remarkable opportunity for farmers to make substantial improvements in bird welfare and embrace more sustainable practices in poultry farming.
